Neutrals !

After some serious dosage about life in my last post, it's time to get back on track and talk business!
New year is around the corner and so is our new list of failed resolutions. Well that is that, let us calm down and feel the post Christmas holiday vibes with my next fashion report.

While my eyes are aching looking at reds, greens and goldens for good 10 days now, I decided to go strictly neutral. Tearing through winter season's color trend this year, neutral colors are doing the rounds in fashion world lately. It is refreshing to see sober colors on a sunny winter morning and that is exactly what we are feeling at Spangle Street.

I am wearing a basic denim shirt and white denims with a statement necklace (I love!). To save my soul I am carrying my savior overcoat on shoulder to complete the look. Bold red lips for oomph and well, why not! Neutrals on neutrals can hardly go wrong if you get the trick of pairing it with the right colors. Have a look!

Features:
Shirt: GAP
White denims: Mango
Statement Necklace: Mariposa Love
Overcoat: Mango (Old/limited edition)
Lipstick: Ruby Woo

Human Writes.

Flipping through inspirational novels and browsing through self correcting, inspiriting life quotes on the internet or restlessly googling pictures of your favorite destination, inquiring about how to get there, shifting base, moving away and starting a new life, finances, friends, family - everything, everything and a lot more.

We all go through this phase, some go through this phase pretty often. (like me). I am not completely sure about my intention of writing today and definitely not too sure till what extent I should write and speak about the endless thoughts swirling in my mind- but it's high time I put it down on my screen and flush it out. And well, why not.

Bear with me as I take you to different  places with my emotions all at once. As spoken before, there is no particular intention behind this article. It is just bits and pieces of various thoughts put together. You are welcome to feel connected.

For whatever I have experienced in my life till now, there is one thing that comes out pretty blatantly, clearing all your doubts at once, sticking the truth right into your face and it's called Change.

Nothing remains the same and everything is bound to change- for good or bad is a choice that you make. You can't deny it. Change is like a necessary evil. It's bound to happen and it's bound to take you places you have never been before. It might make you a person you always dreamt to be or it might rip you apart and make you disbelieve. What comes after that change decides the next phase of your life. So figure that out and figure that out carefully.

Love, friendships, identity issues, career storms. Change hits everything and everyone. You might have decided to do something as a result of some unpleasant change that slapped your life in the past and you might have ended up on a fairy land because of the decisions you made with regards to that change- a perfect lover, a great job, a loving family and hefty popularity on social media.
Then, stuff changes. Circumstances change. You think your life has turned upside down and you can't wait but to rush out of that so called fairy land you wished to stay on forever. That's change right there. Don't get too hot or too cold with your feelings too soon. Keep it constant. Being constant is more important than loving or hating fiercely. Just the fact that a feeling is there-there, will make relationships with people last longer. You should subconsciously be able to remember that a few people are always there, no matter what.

Remember this world is not all heaven or hell. It's a weird concoction of both. So embrace it. This takes me to the next topic- Feel it if you feel it !

Trust me when I say this - we have gone way too far allowing ourselves to be slaves of our own inventions. Money, power, beauty, technology, religion. We have accepted that we can't do without them. But feelings and emotions work differently. Let's not push people to feel or not feel something.
If you are happy, be happy. Even if that's not something everyone around is wanting to feel or wanting YOU to feel. If you are sad, be sad. Feel that emotion and let it break you. Make use of your tear glands and just feel that pain but, when you are done- you will be surprised to know that you really are done! And oh, the strength and freshness you feel after that is a feeling incomparable. It's like you are running barefoot on the snow and jumping into a hot water spring. It's tingling and decompressing. It's something you've been longing for way too long and it's something you deserve.

We humans have a subconscious  tendency to control others. We give the best to someone and snatch it back whenever we feel like doing so. We think we have the power to make someone happy or sad or angry. And why we continue doing this is because it works. You can affect another person in a lot of ways. Now if we turn the tables and look from the perspective of a receiver- the one who actually goes through these happy/sad emotions, the one at the receiving end , we need to understand something. How people want to treat you is their choice and how you want to receive that treatment is yours. I can come into your life like an angel and make you the happiest person alive or I can stab your heart and make you feel unwanted and stupid. How you receive this is a choice that you make for yourself and your life. Please don't allow them to control your emotions. Please guard your soul and your heart because if you don't then who will?

Stop running after temporary things. Stop loving non living things more than what's around you and very much living. Your money and popularity will not get out from the closet and give you a shoulder to cry on when you are upset or laugh with you on your sleazy jokes or perform your last rites for that matter. Your family will, your friends will. Choose carefully and believe in the choices you make and believe in and what you think will stay with you forever. Shun the people who just want to casually hang on or who just want to chill with you because trust me they are worst than the non-living things you are already ruining your life with. My mom tells me, even if you are left with just one person who truly cares for you and who truly loves you before you leave this world, you have won.

Above all, learn to rise. It is hard and it sometimes doesn't make sense when you're gloomy. All these words seem stupid. If you are upset and reading this you might just want to throw away your laptop because you think all this is crap and it's easier said than done.  It's OK. Trust me when I am upset next and come back to this article I would want to erase all this and write bullshit in capitals. It's OK. But remember, when you are not-so-sad and you read this, and you yourself are seeking courage to get back, you will feel connected and you will feel happy reading this. I am telling you that I am going to come back to my own article and take notes and remind myself that.....when everything goes wrong, it's actually going right. If you don't feel bad how will you ever feel so good?

Love and peace to all of you!

Collaboration: The Souled Store

Hi Everyone !

Hope you guys are having fun. I've had a crazy week and I'm glad I could take out a not-so crazy Sunday for myself and relax my nerves. Besides other stuff, I am super duper excited to do a collaboration with my newly favorite"The Souled Store"! .. I am linking them below, You can check them out and get your hands on all the cool stuff they offer.

Just from the time I received my package (beautifully packed in floral paper) and the heart-touching note from the team, I just couldn't wait long enough to style it. See below how Spangle Street styles a casual t-shirt that speaks out so much!.. You know, the word 'K." and the repercussions? Ya? Ya.

If you think t-shirts are worn just to kiss mommy goodnight, you were wrong. T-shirts are one of the most widely styled products- mostly by the off-duty fashion saints. I can literally vouch for a t-shirt being styled with everything you wear. Yep. Everything.

In the outfit below, I have teamed my The Souled Store tshirt (which is super cool and oh so snug) with my pencil skirt and strappy heels. I have accessorized with statement necklaces and neon pink lipstick to color block the entire look.

Last but not the least, my NOPE mug. You know, there is a reason why they call it The Souled Store? Their stuff instantly connects to you. You scroll down and see all the designs and then you're like 'Oh, that's me, Oh that's me again' My Nope Mug is perfect for the cranky-me every morning. Ah.

Features:
Tshirt: The Souled Store
Pencil Skirt: Forever 21
Heels: Steve Maden
Necklaces: Gifted (International)
Mug: The Souled Store

Hope you guys liked this. You can DM me on Instagram (gurbani_johnbuttar) , how you styled your favorite products from The Souled Store and we can have a lil chit chat there ?

P.S: The Souled Store, you have my heart.
Thank you guys!

Until next time

Goodbye Summer !

I am still under some serious decision making on whether I am excited about the winter or dreading it already. I absolutely love winter fashion and ever-ready to try and experiment fall trends..but, I feel so damn cold! It isn't even funny as to the extent I can curse the world around me when I am not warm. Winter foods, endless coffee and excessive layering is all on point but, blah! *shivers thinking about it*.

Keeping my emotions in my pants, let me share with you the last of my spring- summer favorite- denims and summer throw overs. I recently figured how much I love layering. It is like my ultimate go-to/can never go wrong with fashion trick. All you have to do is, pick the right colors. With layering, you can always match a few things and give attention to one color-blocking piece. For example, if you play around with the darker color family.. like greys and blacks and navys, pop up a brighter/lighter color like a pink/blue/orange or a red depending on the colors you choose and like.

I am wearing a grey crop and a black throw-over summer jacket. To color block, I went for a basic blue denim skirt and signature red lips.

Features: Skirt: Forever 21
Crop top: Forever 21
Summer jacket: Singapore fashion street.

Hope you guys liked this! Tell me how you layered your last outfit. You can send us your pictures/queries on Instagram: Gurbani_johnbuttar or find us on Facebook : Spangle Street

see you super soon

Basics.

Hi all you lovely people!

A big shout out to everyone loving Spangle Street so much. For understanding what exactly it tries to showcase and to believe in the power of individuality. Thank you for never trying to push me into the rat race for it is because of YOU, this blog doesn't give me the nerves and remains my heart's first home. Peaceful, lovely and satisfied with life!

On that note, I am planning to expand the blog and create extended branches/sub-sections about life talks, tips, everyday posts and other things of interest. Let's hope I can figure something out super soon.

*Philosophy hits* *boom* :

You know, I am big time thinker. And I don't think I regret that. Thinking gives me a lot of power. I like to sit and understand the situation, think and analyse it. I like to draw conclusions. I like clarity. I don't think I like to clutter my mind though. That is something we all should refrain from. Allow space inside your brain, only then can you allow certainty in your heart. Please realize that a big-thinker is not an Over-thinker. Big thinkers don't allow trash into their minds, they only allow various situational thoughts, take out solutions and take decisions- which in my opinion is, great!

When you are done with thinking about a subject, release yourself from other negative thoughts. Get over that situation and get on to the conclusion that you had already framed inside your head. It's a great great feeling, trust me!

*Click, back!* Drawing my inspiration from my own philosophy(lol), I present to you the next fashion report. It's ok you may come back after having a glass of water. I know the talks were heavy. But hey, we do this on Spangle Street once in a while, don't we? :)

I am wearing what the fashion universe has happily accepted as THE official off-duty uniform of fashion saints around the world. Basics as we know, a white shirt and your best denims are here to stay!I have added my favorite spring - summer front button blazer in Navy to complete the look.

This needs no further explanation so I'll be jumping right into the features.

Denims, Shirt, Heels: Zara! (It's that simple)
Blazer: Forever 21

Scroll through the various expressions :)

What's in the wind, if the minds can't move

Hello Everyone!
Hope you guys are doing great. Before your mind gets tired of thinking about this deep, thoughtful title, allow me to explain.

I am finally out of my birthday excitement . I managed to get myself out of the crazy schedule and celebrate it in the hills. It was a beautiful trip. All the real things. The real beauty. The clean air and the musical mountains. Usually when I go to the mountains, I love to walk around introspecting my life. Believe it or not, you always end up thinking positive about all your moves!

My title can be interpreted in many ways- a stubborn mind or a strong belief, a challenge accepted or a challenge lost.. I leave it on you to discover what it means to you. As far as I am concerned, to me it means how sometime we fail to let a person be the way they are. We need to encourage individuality. Forcing your opinions on someone to do something or act in a particular manner, will always push that person farther from that. Let the person BE. Let the person make their own story. Let them decide whether they want you to be the part of their story or not. Free them from your rock solid notions. Celebrate versatility!

On that note, here is the next fashion report !

I am wearing this Kimono finally. They have been my favorite this season. I have paired them with my semi formal front pleat  pants. I decided to keep it easy going by wearing a basic color-blocking string top and finishing my look with these super comfortable pair of office heels.
The outfit screams minimalism so I'd rather not spoil the fun by talking too much about it.

Try this out and share it with me on my facebook page, get a chance to be up on Spangle Street . Let's be friends! ;)

Features:
Kimono and String top: Shopping Street, Singapore
Pants and Heels: ZARA

Blue o' Blue ! #Midweek Fashion Report.

Hello Everyone!

I am coming back from this long weekend after ages! It was one good, relaxed weekend. The weather is pretty on and off but much better than what is was!

I jump- started my mundane Monday , somehow managed to get over with Tuesday and finally thanking the arrival of Wednesday. I thought of writing down a quick fashion post just distract myself from this mentally exhausting week . My mood board was pretty blank- rather plain for a couple of days. Therefore, I decided to use this unusual feeling to my benefit and chalked down a theme for my next post. The Classics: Blue on Blue. And well, why are we not surprised? haha.

Summer Spring 2015 fashion trends have been clearly tripping on Denims. If you rewind a few posts back, you will see how I compiled a couple of denim styles from the aristocratic runways.

In this post, you are seeing me wearing  denim flared pants and a basic crew neck top. I wanted to keep it as classic as possible, which is why I avoided to play around with too many colors. So Navy Blue and Denims with pops of red and white nail paint and Ruby Woo Lips was my idea of accessorizing this style. I went for vintage soft curls to finish the look.

Features:
Top: ZARA
Flared pants: Sparkles- a small lil vintage closet.
Strap Heels: Steve Madden
Nails: Power Polish by Polish Nail Spa, India

I  also want to thank my friend Navreen for taking up the sweet burden of Spangle Street shoots from now on. She is amazing- inside out and one only needs such people in life to keep going and doing what you gotta do ! :)

See you soon!

Details: What I wore for my graduation - Why and How !

Hellowww fellows!

How are you guys doing? Coping up well with the heat, unlike me? Ahan!
I am not completely sure if I hate summers or love winters and my constant ranting about the weather makes it even worse (haha).

Coming back from that thought, my next post is here- and why oh why, it is one of the highly requested ones. My Graduation Dress.

You know the hullaballoo that usually happens before the graduation day- everywhere, you can't escape it, even though you decide to turn up in your shorts for the sake of protest. Everyone is surfing the internet, the malls and every nook and corner of the city is crazily crowded to get THAT dress. Though some might disagree on the popularity it holds - maybe it cannot beat the madness "proms" hold, but it is one of THE most special moments for any student, we all know.

I am not sure if I did go as crazy as some of us to look for the perfect dress. I am saying that because I am an unconscious fashion rebel- if you choose colors, I'll choose white. So before searching for the dress, I kept the following things in mind:

1. I want a light color.
2. I want a statement dress meaning a dreas having sharp, definite cuts and no confusion.
3. Formal-but not something straight out of the office.
4. A piece I haven't seen before.

While I did my share of running around for a bit, I wasn't convinced on anything.
Finally I logged into #KOOVS (www.koovs.com) and scrolled and scrolled and scrolled until I found this! <3 ..

I am wearing a dress from Ax Paris. The variety is great, the material is great, the fit is GREAT and it saved me from a teeth-grinding price. I chose powder blue, because enough said- ILOUUVEIT.

I teamed it up with my basic Steve Madden strappy heels, rocked orange lips with the outfit to give it a little boost. I also wore the statement earrings from #koovs, again. (You can check those out in my previous to previous post).
And.... that's it!

:)
Check out below and see what I wore !

Hope you guys enjoyed this!

Periods: Why suddenly, the rest of the world becomes your enemy- AND- How to fix it!

Excuse me while I struggle to open my eyes and try to figure out the distance between my bed and the washroom which, right now, looks about 100 light years far.

THAT time of the month. Dreaded by over 90% women of the modern era. Why is this, such a huge deal? ...Because, it IS.

Every woman (in the 90% list) agrees that her periods are painful, annoying and basically puts her into a bowl full of negativity. Now this troubled feeling is medically proven too, which makes it even more disturbing. Argh.

The PMS time takes a toll on us and we are not here to convince our male friends about its truthfulness. Whether they turn their insensitive deaf ear towards us or not, the point is- We can hardly ignore it and well, in short, these 5 days, suck.

And then we sit back and slip into the self introspection phase, you know, carrying out a few reality checks here and there. Making up and breaking up. Twiddling into this pool of mixed emotions- Making a list to kill, to shop, to eat- Sobbing over unrealistic dumb romantic movies. - Feels like home? Yeah? Thank you.

But let's sit here and talk about what we can do about it rather than writing another 1 billion-th report on how periods suck. Let's identify the problem and even though, I know, we feel like sitting back and staring into the wall during this time, let's just try and make this huge messy deal into a simpler one. Shall we?

1. Make your own freakin PMS Playlist:

Get this straight up your face, all of us do not have Ashton Kutcher and most of us shouldn't need one. In your happy days, sit back, take out an hour and download the songs you love- keep them funny and light and not gloomy and noisy. Youtube, 8 tracks.com, bustle.com etc. - just google it and download the freakin list. Belive it or not, music will make you feel better- always! Listen to them during your periods. Ah, that feeling. <3

2. Eat normal food- don't go on a kung fu crazy diet!

I strongly believe that eating right during your period will help you. But the kind of overly complex diets Google suggests will only make you more tired. I don't disagree to the goodness it carries, but honestly, I would read it for the rest of the month and promise myself to follow it, but as the PMS hits, I will hate it- that’s the truth. So look for a diet or modify your existing diet which is easy going and makes you feel fresh and energized. You can take Juices, fruits & vegetables, Dark chocolates (yes!), Green tea etc. Add these into your normal routine diet; make them your best friend. Apart from that, do something interesting like gently grooving to your favorite number, yoga and meditation. Get home massages (best bet).
*Note: If you have a troublesome period, meaning, periods that demand medical attention, follow a routine and add the important foods which will help you. Do as the doc says!

3. Save your body from those heart clenching dresses.

Not all tight fitted clothes are stylish, especially when you are on your periods. Theory? Simple. When you don't feel right wearing the outfit, it always reflects on your face- no matter how much hide. No matter how wide your smile is.  Save yourself from having an embarrassingly distressed face, rather wear distressed denims and a chic, flowy top and stuff like that. Style your outfit that way. Live in pajamas if you are indoors. Give your belly that warmth and comfort it deserves and save it from the utterly tight sequined dress which is constantly poking your abdomen.

4. If you can't understand them- Ignore them.

We all know during PMS, everybody around us becomes unrealistic, unreasonable, impatient and annoying. But allow me to tell you the truth- it is us. Yes girls. The fault is in OUR stars. Even we don't want to believe it; we still, somehow should learn to accept it. We become nasty and difficult.

Even though during this time, all odds are against us and we feel like shit, let's try and fix this. Avoid jumping into arguments and forcefully creating them. As soon as you get upset over stuff like- someone used your expensive shampoo, you can't order your favorite food, wifi is not working, your boyfriend doesn’t understand you, someone honked outside your apartment more than once, the sale is over  and all the other minor things in life, understand that they are minor and get over that feeling ! Avoid avoid. Ignore Ignore! Listen to music. Start reverse counting from 100 and just have a glass of water. Gulp those harsh words that plan to come out of your mouth.  Brush away that crazy temper- TRY! TRY! :)

Basically, try and keep your mood right. You are your best friend. Keep the charge in your own hands. Periods are a part of us and - an important one, so let's just accept it and try to make a less deal out of it- for our own good and for everyone around us.

Write me in if you have any queries- I will try and answer them. Also, we can do a quick chat up session on facebook or instagram. Catch me on insta - Gurbani_JohnButtar.

Happy Periods!
Hugs and kisses

(Wait. Did someone around me BREATHE!!!?? Arghhh.  So annoying. *Smashes the laptop, sleeps*)
